: These bio degradable EPA melamine snack boxes which originate from the Jing dynasty (220-581 A.D) have been designed by Taiwanese designer Kate Chung.

: The fire proof ceramic steamer set made of cedar wood and terra cotta was reinterpreted by Office for Product Design.

: These handmade bowls are made of carbonized bamboo and porcelain have been designed by Designschneider.

: Taiwan-born Christopher Lin is the founder and the president of the Hong Kong-based homeware company JIA-inc.

JIA-Inc has been successfully established on the international scene for a few years now. During that time JIA-Inc has carved out a niche for itself with its special mix of Chinese and foreign designed home ware. Nicely Made in China is proud to announce that last night ceramic and porcelain makers Julie Progin and her partner Jesse McLin from Latitude, achieved recognition from the industry by being among the 40 winners of the Perspective magazine « 40 under 40″ competition 2011 which celebrates excellence in the fields of architecture, interiors and product design.

NMiC featured Julie and Jesse in an article last November.

Winter can be very cold and very long in the North of China! In its search for the perfect sweaters to keep warm, Nicely Made in China has come across Khunu, a young brand which deserves attention. Created by Julian Wilson, an ex-British army officer and Aaron Pattillo, who used to work as a manager for the Clinton Foundation, the company was created 18 months ago. Already, their sweaters are to be found on the shelves of fashionable stores in hip Swiss and Californian ski resorts. Surfing the internet recently in search of new ideas, Nicely Made in China (NMiC) came upon a beautifully elegant tea set. We managed to track down the designers, and were delighted to discover they produce a whole host of other desirable well-designed items.

This week Nicely Made in China is happy to introduce Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, architects and designers. Lyndon was born in the Philippines and educated in the US – a Harvard graduate. Rossana comes from Taiwan and is a Princeton graduate. The couple who now works for prestigious design companies like bd barcelona, moooi, meritalia and swarovski give NMiC readers an insight into what China has in store in the coming years with regard to design and architecture. If you live in Beijing or Shanghai you may have noticed a couple of small shops, one tucked away in leafy Sanlitun (Beijing), the other in the trendy Fuxing Lu (Shanghai) with an attractive and strange name: Rouge Baiser followed by the name Elise. Nicely Made in China decided to investigate and met with the French owner, Elise de Saint Guilhem, to talk embroidery, mixing colors and the differences -or the lack of- between Chinese and Western clients. This week Nicely Made in China (NMiC) is happy to feature its first shoe designer. Londoner, Alison Mary Ching Yeung, half-Chinese, half-British, created the brand Mary Ching in 2009 in Shanghai . On her way to becoming the « Louboutin of Shanghai » (according to French fashion magazine ELLE) Mary Ching has become in a short time a much sought after brand by fashionistas in China and beyond. With Christmas fast approaching, Nicely Made in China (NMiC) wondered how to wrap the gifts which will go under the tree. The choice on offer in shops was disappointing – until we stumbled upon Papertiger wrapping paper and cards. This brand has not been around for very long but is already making its mark on the wrapping paper market in China.
